MOUTH HEALTH and OIL PULLING

Updated: Mar 2, 2020

Just went to the dentist the other day. I had NO CAVITIES! Woohoo!!! The reason I say "WooHoo", is that I use the doTERRA toothpaste which has no fluoride in it (and as kids we were always told to use flouride...). Why am I concerned with fluoride? In high doses flouride can be toxic (https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/154164.php)

I also rinse afterward with the doTERRA OnGuard mouthwash. YUMM! If used for 60 seconds it is supposed to change the ph level in your mouth to make the interior of your mouth more alkaline, and help to decrease the bacteria in your mouth...win/win! Find the toothpaste and mouthwash here: https://doterra.me/BBh3g6vT

The dental hygienist did say that using a water flosser would be a good idea. I found this one on on Amazon as an Amazon Choice.

I also have found that oil pulling is a very good addition to oral hygiene. What is oil pulling? It is a 3,000 year Ayurvedic practice of swishing oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes at a time. (The reason you do so is because the oil molecules attach to any bacteria which may be hanging out in the mouth, and you want them out! It also made my teeth whiter after oil pulling for three weeks in a row!) I like to use coconut oil, because it tastes less offensive than any other oils I have tried (olive oil is not a fun one to swish in one's mouth). And then after 20 minutes you spit coconut oil out in the trash because otherwise it can clog up your sink and toilet's pipes. No one wants that!

There are various kinds of coconut oil. And many different brands. I have always found quality in Nutiva brand coconut oil products, (I've been buying them for years in Costco). If you have a Costco near you and you want to get some, it's always better to buy there, cause if you don't like it, you can always take it back without having to go to the post office. But, if Costco is not in your universe, my second fave place to shop is Amazon. Here are some Nutiva products to try for your oil pulling.

If you like the taste of coconuts you can go for this one: https://amzn.to/3amPknA

If you don't like the taste of coconuts, get this one: https://amzn.to/3cshX4y

ADD BONUS: You can cook with these oils, AND clean your face with them! SCORE!

If you want to cook with them, try these, they taste like butter: https://amzn.to/3cpvJFq
